About the Wazau CHD Contact Heat Device
The CHD from Wazau (Dr.-Ing. Georg Wazau Mess- + Prüfsysteme GmbH, Berlin, Germany) is a contact heat device. It enables the evaluation of the heat transfer properties of clothing material used for protective clothing for protection against heat and flames, to EN ISO 12127-1.
In this test method a heating cylinder is brought into contact with a sample of the clothing material to be tested. The heating cylinder is heated to the respective contact temperature and maintained at this temperature. A sample of the material is placed on the calorimeter, and the calorimeter together with the sample is moved at a constant speed towards the heating cylinder. A temperature curve is recorded by the calorimeter, and the threshold time is determined from this curve.
The device is controlled and its data recorded by a laptop with pre-installed software for DIN EN ISO 12127-1. The calorimeter travel is electrical, with a linear spindle drive, and the contact temperature range is 100 to 500 °C.

Contact heat device: frequently asked questions
Which standard does the Wazau CHD follow?
EN ISO 12127-1, the evaluation of the heat transfer properties of clothing material used for protective clothing against heat and flames. The pre-installed software is for DIN EN ISO 12127-1.
How does the test work?
A heating cylinder is heated to the contact temperature and held there. A sample on the calorimeter is moved at constant speed towards the heating cylinder. The calorimeter records a temperature curve, and the threshold time is determined from it.
What contact temperatures are possible?
The contact temperature range is 100 to 500 °C. The travel of the linear unit is 90 mm.
How is the device controlled?
By a laptop with pre-installed software (DIN EN ISO 12127-1, MCC-DAQ, MS Windows 10), through a USB interface with a multifunction data acquisition module. The calorimeter travel is electrical.
What is supplied with the CHD?
A rack with housing, glazed door and hinge switch; the heating cylinder with its housing, thermocouple, silver alloy puncheon, heating element, insulation and linear guide; the calorimeter with linear spindle drive; the control unit; the data acquisition module; a laptop with software; and an English operating manual.
What are the installation requirements?
A 230 VAC 50/60 Hz supply of 300 VA. The rack measures 620 × 752 × 410 mm (W × D × H), the control unit 471 × 108 × 271 mm, and the weight is approx. 50 kg. Dimensions may vary as the product is further developed.
